RAKU FIRING CLASS WITH JANET DUCHESNEAU (Day 1)

  • The Voice of Clay 16 Meetinghouse Hill Road Brookline, NH, 03033 United States (map)

Join us for this 2 day workshop and come try this exciting firing technique! Raku Firing pottery is done by taking pots directly from the kiln while they are still glowing red hot, and then placed in a material such as sawdust or newspaper which will catch fire easily. The reason for this is to starve the pot of oxygen, which gives the glaze a wonderful variety of colors. Pieces with no glaze on them take the oxygen from the clay itself, meaning some areas will have a matte black coloring. Raku differs to normal firing where the piece is removed from the kiln after it’s cooled down slowly. Cost includes all materials and firing.

Day 1 (September 7th, 10 AM- 12 PM) - Hand-build or throw your pieces with clay specifically made for the Raku firing.

Day 2 (September 22nd, 10 AM - 2 PM) - We will glaze our pots and fire the kiln together, a few pieces at a time, until they are all finished. Since this will be a longer day bring a dish for a potluck lunch hosted at The Voice of Clay.
