The Voice of Clay is seeking an experienced professional potter and teacher to lead wheel-throwing classes in our Brookline studio.
We are looking for someone who understands that learning pottery involves more than mastering a series of techniques. Working with clay develops patience, attention, coordination, confidence, and a relationship with a natural material that continually asks the maker to observe, adjust, and respond.
The ideal instructor brings strong technical knowledge together with an encouraging and individualized teaching style. Students should receive a solid foundation in the craft while also having room to develop their own creative voice.
The instructor should have professional experience teaching wheel throwing and feel confident demonstrating and explaining centering, pulling walls, shaping forms, trimming, handles, surface development, glazing, and related studio practices.
Our classes include students with different learning styles, abilities, and levels of confidence. We are looking for a teacher who can meet students where they are, maintain a calm and welcoming studio atmosphere, and encourage growth without creating a competitive environment.
Qualifications:
• Professional pottery experience
• Demonstrated experience teaching wheel throwing
• Strong throwing and trimming skills
• Knowledge of clay bodies, glazing, firing, and general studio practices
• Ability to clearly demonstrate techniques and explain the reasons behind them
• Comfortable teaching adults with varying experience levels
• Warm, patient, dependable, and organized
• Respect for clay as both an artistic material and a material of the earth
• Ability to maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming studio environmentThe Voice of Clay is particularly interested in an instructor who sees craftsmanship as a balance of skill, observation, creativity, and relationship with the material. We want students to leave class with stronger pottery skills and a deeper sense of connection to the creative process.

The Voice of Clay has an established clientele and will actively promote the therapist through our website, newsletters, social media, and existing client base. The therapist should also be comfortable building and maintaining their own practice within The Voice of Clay.
