The instructor should have professional experience teaching wheel throwing and feel confident demonstrating and explaining centering, pulling walls, shaping forms, trimming, handles, surface development, glazing, and related studio practices.

The therapist should also be comfortable building and maintaining their own practice within The Voice of Clay. Retail education and product sales are part of this position. Therapists should feel comfortable recommending appropriate products and services when they genuinely support a client's needs.

Our approach to skin and body care recognizes that the skin reflects the whole person. Treatments are designed to support the body's natural rhythms while offering clients a restorative experience through warmth, thoughtful touch, natural preparations, and individualized care.

Knowledge of Dr. Hauschka skincare is highly desirable. Experience with castor oil packs, body treatments, footbaths, natural skincare, or similar holistic treatments is a strong plus. Familiarity with homeopathic or other complementary approaches to wellness is welcomed, although it is not required.

We are looking for an esthetician who enjoys creating treatments that feel personal rather than mechanical and who takes the time to observe and respond to the individual needs of each client.

The Voice of Clay is seeking an experienced Art Therapist with a particular interest in working with clay as a primary therapeutic medium. This position offers an opportunity to develop a practice within a quiet, holistic environment where clay, creativity, wellness, and meaningful human connection come together.

The ideal practitioner understands that working with clay offers something distinct from other art materials. Clay engages the hands and senses directly and can provide opportunities for grounding, expression, reflection, regulation, and personal exploration. We are looking for someone who feels genuinely connected to the material and is interested in developing therapeutic approaches that make thoughtful use of its unique qualities.

The position will begin part-time and can grow as the practitioner's client base develops. Full-time work may eventually be available for someone who desires it. The practitioner should feel comfortable allowing a practice to grow gradually and organically rather than expecting an immediately full schedule.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and potentially small-group art therapy sessions using clay as the primary expressive medium.

• Develop therapeutic experiences appropriate to each client's needs, goals, abilities, and comfort level.

• Use handbuilding, sculpting, sensory exploration, and other clay processes therapeutically. Wheel work may also be incorporated when appropriate.

• Create a calm, respectful, and supportive environment that encourages exploration without emphasizing artistic ability or the production of a finished object.

• Maintain appropriate client documentation, professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards.

• Maintain awareness of trauma-informed practices and the physical, emotional, and sensory responses that can arise through creative work.

• Collaborate with other practitioners at The Voice of Clay when appropriate while maintaining clear professional scope and client confidentiality.

• Help develop future clay-based therapeutic programs, workshops, and small groups as the practice grows.

• Maintain the clay therapy space and ensure materials and tools are used safely and appropriately.

Qualifications

• Master's or doctoral degree in Art Therapy from an accredited institution required.

• ATR, ATR-BC, or eligibility for professional art therapy credentialing strongly preferred.

• Additional New Hampshire mental health licensure is preferred when applicable to the practitioner's scope of practice.

• Professional clinical or therapeutic experience strongly preferred.

• Meaningful experience working with clay is important. Candidates do not need to be professional production potters, although they should have a solid understanding of clay as a material and feel confident guiding others through clay processes.

• Experience with trauma-informed, somatic, mindfulness-based, or other holistic approaches is a plus.

• Ability to work independently while also being part of a collaborative wellness environment.

The Right Person

The Voice of Clay is especially interested in finding someone who sees clay as more than an art supply. We are looking for a practitioner who is curious about the relationship between material, creativity, the senses, and emotional well-being and who wants the freedom to develop thoughtful therapeutic work around that relationship.

This position may be particularly well suited to an Art Therapist who wants greater independence than a traditional clinical environment provides and who is interested in slowly developing a meaningful private practice within an established studio and wellness setting.

Schedule

Part-time to begin, with flexibility based on practitioner and client availability. Hours may increase as the practice develops. The position has the potential to become full-time if desired.

Compensation

$38–$45 per hour, depending on education, credentials, clinical experience, and experience working with clay. Higher compensation may be considered for a highly experienced, independently credentialed practitioner with significant ceramics experience.
